Week 2 - Lecture

Firstly, I must apologise. I know that I said that I would upload twice a week, but I'm not sure how well that will end up being.

Anyways, the second lecture last week went smoothly. Now I understand what is required to type in my journal.

First things first: What is design?

"That'll take you hours and hours and hours, or about half a minute if you use Google."

A narrow definition of design is deciding upon the look and functioning of an object, usually by making detailed drawings of it. It can be expanded to show that designing is basically why objects are in the shape that they are in.

Who designed the iPhone and the macbook?

Jonathan Ive recieved an award for his work for the design of the iPhone. As he was the Head-Designer for Apple, he also designed the macbook.

Why is the iPod so successful?

Mainly because it was the first portable device, which played music and didn't act as a phone. It is still so successful now because it's sets the benchmark for mobile devices.

Who is the lead designer for your favourite game?

Well, my favourite game is Formula 1 Challenge (2003) and the lead designer for that game was Joseph Campana.

As all teachers and lecturers say: "Students don't like to work in teams. So, next week you will be working in teams. Not just because we like to cause you pain..."
